I have been trying to decide if I want to try a Vbac or have a repeat c-section this entire pregnancy. It has been a very difficult decision to make. I have asked several family members, friends, and moms on tons of pregnancy boards for advice. I took a class last week at the hospital to learn some of the risks involved with either choice. As it turns out, the risks are actually quite comparible. It is no more risky to have a Vbac then it is a C-section. The risk of uterine rupture is less then 1%. With a c-section there is risk of infection, scar tissue, and complications with future pregnancy. The recovery will be much more painful with the repeat c-section as well. BUT with all that said...
I have decided to have a repeat c-section. I decided that it would be best for my situation and my body. I had failure to progress with my labor with Ethan, which puts me at a 50% chance of success with a vbac. Which means, I could still fail and need the c-section. The risk of infection increases once I have begun labor or if my water has broken. So my decision is to schedule the c-section prior to labor. I am currently due Oct 3rd. I very much want an October baby, for many selfish reason. I plan to talk to my OB on Friday and see when he thinks would be good. I may be having her in September though, the way it looks now.
I will definitely be on here Friday letting you know how our talk goes. I want to make sure what I know, or think I know, about the c-section is correct. Discuss the date of the c-section, and some of the hospital procedures. Its a lot to think about and a lot to organize. I then, knowing the date, will have to start lining up some help for Ethan. I will be in a ton of pain and will have a longer recover then I did with Ethan. So I need to make sure I have help to take care of him and keep my house clean and our tummies full.
Hoping that I can get somethings set in stone and can relax these last 8-9 weeks!
For my next one, I would love to have a VBAC, but I think the Repeat C/S would just be easier. You can schedule when to have someone come to watch Devon, and you already had a C/S before, so you know what to expect. You will do just fine. I know with Ryan I went through labor too, and it was a mess, and I was tired, and hungry. And with a planned C/S its done and over with so fast, no pains. :-)
